Species Rules & Regulations

These rules are put in place to keep manokits distinct from other original species. Please be courteous of the owners of this species and follow the rules when designing a manokit character. If you do not like any of the rules and wish to disregard them, that is totally fine: we just ask that you do not call your character a manokit, but rather inspired by manokits or just a different creature altogether. Thank you!

  1. Horns are allowed on all subspecies, just don't get carried away. All horns are restricted to the head, they can be almost any design.(Antlers, singular unicorn-like, ram-like, barbells on the muzzle, etc.)

  2. Have fun with extra traits like fins but keep your manokit recognizable as any subspecies. It wouldn’t make sense for a tribal manokit on land to lug around really large fins that are meant to assist in the water, for example.

  3. Manokits are only allowed to have rounded pupils. No X shaped, split, square, horizontal, etc. pupils are allowed.

  4. Manokits are NOT allowed to be hybridized with other species. Including but not limited to: Sergals, Vernids, Dutch Angel Dragons, Wickerbeasts, Protogens, Gem Raptors, Closed Species, etc. Each original species is unique in their own ways, and have their own rules you must follow, and we wish to respect the creators wishes for each species.

  5. Absolutely NO wings. Beach Dwellers are allowed to have large back or arm fins similar to rays and some fish, to assist in moving in and jumping out of the water, but none of the species are able to fly. Their bone density and ecology just doesn’t permit flight or feathers.

  6. Absolutely NO NSFW, as no subspecies has any form of genitalia or nipples. This is of request of the species owner for their own comfort and the comfort of many other members of the community who see this species as a safe space.

  7. Manokits cannot be undead. They are living creatures so concepts such as undead manokits, cyborgs, and the like are to be kept in folktale only. Being made out of non living objects/materials also falls under this rule, unless it is a prosthetic that can be achieved in current day human technology. Scars and injuries are perfectly fine, the general rule is that if a human can survive it, so can a manokit.

  8. Manokit tails must move in a horizontal fashion. Manokits are based around fish and sharks, as such their tails move in a left-right motion. Tails such as dolphin tails, whale tails, shrimp tails, non-fish tails like crocodiles/scorpions/snakes/etc are not allowed. That is to say, you cannot just put a shrimp tail on a manokit; however, you can have a shrimp inspired tail that still moves in a left to right fashion that implies the looks of a shrimp.

Splash, the official mascot for the manokit species, is a fantastic example of what a manokit looks like!

Non-Canon Manokits

We don’t like stifling creativity in our community, while we do have regulations for the species, these rules are what make manokits a unique species. You cannot think outside the box, unless there is a box to begin with. That being said, we encourage people to find ways to be creative within the limitations.

For example, with tails being restricted to a horizontal movement like a fish’s that does not limit the fact that they can be a wide variety of shapes not just the traditional shark ones. Yes, manokits cannot be undead: that does not stop you from creating manokits that can look undead: as long as it is clear that it is a fur pattern rather than actuality. For example, skeleton manokits who have bone patterns on their fur. They are not actually just bones, but they can have patterns that elude them. Manokits cannot have wings, but you can shape the large ray-like fins to be similar to wings, as long as they do not have feathers and cannot fly. Manokits cannot be made up of non organic materials, but they can have fur coats that may look like it or have prosthetics within reason. By staying within the bounds of reason, you can get real creative with your designs and blow us all away with your skills.

If you are ever unsure about your design, don’t hesitate to ask an admin: we love questions like this!

Speaking of feathered manokits, one of the deities for manokits does in fact have feathers and flight. Why? Because it is folklore. Manokit folklore can have more allowance in what is real or mystical because that is what they are: stories and legends. Like with current human life, we have had depictions of deities and fiction with many wild concepts. Want your manokit to be set in the future with crazy technology? Make it fiction. Want your manokit to have absurd superpowers? Make it fiction. As long as it is clear that the character in question is a manokit not within the canonical lore, but rather is a work of fiction or legend: you can remove some of the limits the species has. For example, you can make an eldritch horror manokit with exposed ribs and mystical powers as long as it is clear that this manokit is that of cryptid and mythical legend to a subset of manokits. Similar to mothman, the lochness monster or superman and characters from fiction. As long as it is CLEAR that it is a NON CANON MANOKIT, you are free to write and create fictional works pertaining to the manokit species.

Still want to make a manokit character but not follow the rules? That is totally fine! We just ask you don’t call it a manokit. Do you want a manokit with a whale/dolphin-like tail? Want your manokit to have feathered wings? Want your protogen to have manokit like traits? Call it a something else or make it your very own separate species! You can call it manokit inspired, manokit adjacent, etc. Again, we don’t want to limit creativity: the rules are in place to work within the evolution, lore, anatomy and comfort of the species as well as a way to not step on the toes of any other original works. If you want to disregard the rules: go for it, as long as the character in question is no longer called a manokit.
